My Xbox red ringed for five minutes

It is decreed that one shall pound the pillars.
I was exploring the depths of some lake in Skyrim happily when I knocked the power cord. Turned it back on and DISMAYED I saw the three red lights. I turned it off and on again and still had the lights. Frantically I searched for the receipt in the vain hope it was still covered under warranty. Didn't find shit. Sat back down to despondently try again and powered up. No red ring.

Is this a sign of things to come or is it just a one off issues because I powered it down accidentally? It might just be a warning that I've been playing too much tbh. But it's back FOR NOW.

Knocked the power cord? You mean you hit it somehow and pulled it out of the back of the system or out of the wall? Seems like a really strange situation to bring about the (momentary) red rings. Did the system get violently jerked when you 'knocked the cord?'

I actually yanked it out while the console was powered up. I thought it had shorted something but it seems to be working okay now. Was a fairly harrowing experience since I don't think it's under warranty and I can't afford a new one.

I mean there's worse shit that could happen but still.

I take it yours is one of the older models?

That whole "HURR DURR RROD" thing really died down after they came out with the newer design last year.

I've had it around three years or so at my best guess. Probably just under the warranty period

I've had my current 360 for about 3 years. No RROD yet on this one. I guess the 5th time is the charm. Or is it 6th? I've lost track.

And I will probably never get it....until my kids get older and want one...but by then I'll probably stop posting on forums

That was not a red ring. it was another warning that told you the power cord disconnected/is connected wrong. I used to do it all the time >_>

It was upset that you pulled the cord, so it started fucking with you in retaliation.

This. The red rings actually relay a whole bunch of different error messages - only one specific light combo, and a few sub-error codes, mean the dreaded RRoD.

It had the three lights in the right places. It was enough to make me shit myself but I'm very relieved to hear that it's not a sign it's dying or anything.
